Introduction to myself!

Hi! For the first post, let’s start with the basics. I am human and a passionate advocate in the health field. I believe that we need to get to know each other a bit in order to work best together. I am Nicol Tran (formally McNiven). I am a physiotherapist but a little about me outside the clinic:

What do I do in my free time?

  • I spend the majority of my free time crossfitting and lifting weights but I am probably talking equally as much.

  • You will also find me downhill or cross country skiing, bouldering, and trying any sport I can get my hands on.

  • When I am on vacation, it will be travelling somewhere cool to hike, check out new cultures and try awesome foods.

Who am I most comfortable with?

  • My best friend is my forever puppy doodle Thor

  • My partner in crime is also a physiotherapist but you will not see him do cardio or most of my sports

What sports did I play?

  • Growing up I was a competitive curler, mostly as a skip

  • I also played soccer, field hockey, skiing and cross country running.

What is my philosophy?

As a physiotherapist, it is my mission to help people lift heavier, move better and overcome injuries.

I am a true nerd that loves to learn new skills and better myself every day, my goal is to look at people as a whole system and make sure you come out of treatment better than you enter by finding the root cause of the injury. My promise is to always educate and empower people to learn about their injuries and allow them to take an active role in the recovery. If there is something I don’t know, I will find a solution and learn about it.

I believe in working as a team, collaborating with other professionals and finding the long term solution to injuries.

I, above everything else, LOVE to help and work with people. I LOVE education. I LOVE seeing people meet their goals and succeed in their own way.

What do I expect when coming to physiotherapy?

I believe no one responds to the same treatment. Having a bucket of options to help people is the best way to succeed. Most importantly, I think that exercise is more important than anything else we do.

Treatments will be active. We will do some hands on work but most importantly go over the exercises that will help in the full recovery of an issue.

Who do I work with?

EVERYONE! I love helping anyone and everyone. However, I do have the most experience in the sports world. I love helping people through acute injuries and chronic, reoccurring injuries. The majority of my patients are active in their own respect looking to improve their lifting and movement performance.

What services do I like to provide?

  • Acute and chronic injuries

  • Preventative check-ins. There are always movements we can improve upon and accessory work we can add to our program. Even if you aren’t injured but have nagging issues, I think this is a great time to work together to make sure this doesn’t continue to be your limiter.

  • Programming. I love programming exercises or complimenting lifting programs with accessory and/or mobility programs.
